Project Documentation and Administration

Integral to the Master Planning Process is the public process and consensus building. The City of Miami and EDSA began the process by conducting a series of stakeholder interviews during the Research and Data Collection phase of the Master Planning Process. At the conclusion of the Research and Data Collection Phase, EDSA presented in a public forum the preliminary results of this phase of work. The first meeting was held on March 27th, 2007 at the U.M. Rosensteil School Auditorium where EDSA presented the first phases of the project including Research and Data Collection, Inventory and Analysis, and the Conceptual Land Use Plan. During this meeting, EDSA facilitated on-going public input and feedback of the information presented as well as opened a feedback form on the Virginia Key Master Plan website for additional comments.

After the initial Community Information Meeting, EDSA conducted a Public Workshop and Presentation on June 20th, 2007 at La Salle High School. A summary of the comments received after the first public meeting through the website feedback forum, faxes, letters, and phone calls was presented during this second public meeting. The Workshop involved an interactive series of activities that were organized to gather public feedback and comment. The results of the workshop were summarized in the third public meeting held on August 26th, 2008 at Miami City Hall where Preliminary Master Plan Conceptual Options were presented. During this meeting, EDSA presented alternative concepts for the planning of the island in a public forum for public input and feedback.

On May 20th from 6pm to 8pm at the Miami Science Museum, EDSA will present a preview of the Final Master Plan and a summary of the planning and public consensus process that have evolved during the Master Planning Process.  Following the Preview Presentation, Public Hearings will be conducted for the Virginia Key Master Plan at the Waterfront Advisory Board on June 9th, the Planning Advisory Board on June 17th, and the City Commission on June 25th.
